The University of Oregon is proud to host the Oregon Ducks football program. The program competes at the NCAA Division I level and is a member of the Pac-12 Conference. The team, that was originally known as the Webfoots, until the mid-1960s, now proudly carries the name “Ducks” and fights hard for their home town at every game whether home or away. But would you believe that the team is one of the older teams in NCAA history?

The team was originally fielded in 1894 and has earned several awards, titles, and honors across its career. Even as far back as their days in the Pacific Coast Conference, Oregon had claimed 11 conference titles from 1919 – 2014. Ever since it joined the Pac-12 Conference, they have had four appearances at Divisional titles games, winning 2 of these games and going on to Conference title games. The program has also produced a Heisman Trophy winner with Marcus Mariota as well as six other players who have received Heisman votes. What marks Mariota’s win is how he received the votes and awards without a media campaign backing him compared to Joey Harrington’s 2001 campaign that involved a $250,000 billboard. Mariota was simply that strong a player earning 90.92% of possible points, the second-highest in the history of the trophy.

The program has also produced six players who were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as well as 28 players who have been honored as All-Americans including 5 players who were honored in different seasons. The team has also had a strong three undefeated seasons showing that the Ducks play to win and fight harder than many other teams.
